The Diamond is a mathematical point that corresponds to position of the Sun when it is at Perihelion (that point in its apparent orbit when it is closest to the Earth). Exact dates vary each year, but On January 4, 2006 the earth was7.5 million km from the sun, while on July 3, 2006 it was the farthest point at 152.6 million km away from the sun.
